The Last American Hitch-Hiker, Tales of Wander, by Mark Kneeskern

This journal-style novel documents ten years of uncommon modus operandi. Having criss-crossed the states several times and met the craziest most thoughtful people, I decided to write a book. Folks who picked me up often just wanted to talk, telling me their life stories, dreams, and fears. Alongside these funny and sometimes disturbing confessions, I've included anecdotes about travel and our current state of culture. My front seat in the colosseum of commutation has given me a unique perspective and I've witnessed the worst and the best of society, documenting it all with as much humor as I could muster.

I took a thumb, a notepad, a few pages torn from an atlas, heaps of humor, a few pieces of cardboard, snacks, my favorite music, a few lousy bucks, a slowly improving intuition, water of course, camp gear, my imagination, quality Italian hiking boots, and a straw hat. I did NOT bring a cellphone, a laptop, or prejudice.

EYEBALL Studios Guarantee: You will laugh out loud, you will think deep thoughts, you will read every chance you get, you will sometimes wonder why I did it, you will hopefully pass it along to your friends and familly, it will not make you go out and start a hitch-hiking career, you will be satisfied yet left wanting more...

Warning: Do not drink milk while reading this book, as it will surely end up shooting out your nose!

A True American Original voice
By Austin Kenworthy
Mark Kneeskern is hilariously entertaining writer. His true stories collected from his adventures hitchhiking across the country. The colorful people he comes across making his way from point A to point B make for a great read. The cost of adding this to your Kindle pales in comparison to the endless enjoyment you'll get from reading this over and over. This is a book I highly recommend investing in.

Darn accurate tale of hitching, from a fellow hobo
By Gregory P. Petliski
I was on my return leg of my first big hitch (Austin TX to Slab City, CA and back) and wound up in Mark's home town of Terlingua. Whilst drinking on the porch of the general store on a Sunday afternoon, as you do there, the woman who had picked me up that morning in Marfa went and bought me this paperback book and some other goodies when all I asked was "Where do you get those 'Viva Terlingua!' stickers?" I took to reading it the next day in Big Bend National Park, adjacent to Terlingua, as I tried to get the heck out of dodge. Hitching is surprisingly illegal inside National Parks, though not outside of them (unless on limited-access highways such as toll roads and the U.S. Interstate Highway System, though hitching the on-ramp is often acceptable), and most parks are not at all enforced. Its common to see backpackers hitching back to their vehicle after a multi-day hike. Big Bend is HEAVILY enforced, don't even try hitching through here!. And so its fitting that when the second LEO stopped to grill me, I was reading this book, and not even technically hitching since neither my sign or thumb was out. Guess you cant read a book on the side of the road in a National Park! You also shouldn't view wildflowers from the ride of the road, unless you have a gas guzzling CAR next to you, because that oddity got me called in and spoken to the first time, not 20 mins after arriving and waiting for the visitors center to open. Out of the 17 National Parks I've been to, this is the least hitchhiker and dirtbag friendly!

I was told that Mark had really paved the way for hitching in Far West Texas, as it isnt a common occurrence in the region. Well, if today is even better than it was for him, I dread to think of how hard the hitching was in his day!

Oh, and the book is wonderful. But you already knew that. If you like what you read, go and do it, and you will find yourself having the same experiences. I couldnt stop laughing when I read about the RV game especially, I had been playing that for years!

Wonderful read!

This might seem like a "trip" book but it is much more. It is an uplifting look at a life that may not be for everyone, but will definitely change how you look at hitchhikers in the future.

Mark is a creative writer and has a unique world view and philosophy for the road.
