POWER TO THE PEOPLE with Carl Christman's New Book!

Mr. Christman cleanly gives you the skinny on two tools for interaction: He teaches you now to 'scope out' others' intentions so you know how the wind blows...and teaches you many subtle ways to influence them in their actions...depending on what YOU want.

Invaluable to the salesman, teacher, guide, etc. Well worth the loot, and powerful stuff when you apply the information in the book. It brings back the old '60's slogan in a new way: Power To The People!

Fascinating Take on How We Humans Work!

I just finished reading Carl Christman’s “How to Read Minds & Influence People”.

I found the book a very interesting and informative read. While many of the concepts explored may not be revelatory, the way that are put into context and with actionable steps and real word examples, make this a compelling book. Though covering a number of scientific topics, the book is very easy to read and comprehend for us non-sciency types.

Some great examples are used to illustrate many of the points in the book. I particularly found the Coke/Pepsi story extremely interesting.

As someone who keeps finding himself in various sales roles, despite a lifetime aversion to being considered a ’salesman’, the ideas brought forth in the book are so intriguing that I wish I had more of an opportunity to try this stuff out. May have to call that used car lot with the help wanted sign this weekend.

However, as the author says, even those who aren’t ‘sales people’ by title, will benefit from a better understanding of how our ‘audiences’ think & respond in order to better communicate with them. These audiences include bosses, kids, significant others, etc., making this applicable to most humans in some way or another.

I was little curious/concerned about the word ‘influence’ in the book's title as it may imply a negative concept (i.e. coercion), but as explained, it is really intended to result in a mutually beneficial exchange. This is accomplished by learning to communicate so that your message gets past the prospects ‘filters’ based on the ability to read their personality. Good life skills if you ask me.

I recommend this book to anyone who might benefit from a better understanding of people and what causes them to think or behave in a certain way. It is also a good reference book with lists of certain personality types and has some fun ‘tests’ for the reader to asses their own skills in the areas explored.

Highly recommended for anyone that wants a real look into the minds of others and learn the art of mastering the perfect sale. After many years of selling and countless hours in professional training seminars, Carl wraps up everything in a fun and exciting way that doesn't make you want to put it down! Definitely on the top of my list for all salespeople (traditional and nontraditional), new and old!

The book goes into detail about how hospital patients have either improved their health or simply come to feel better despite their illness by using these techniques, but these meditations can help anyone deal with stress and gain a calmer outlook on life. Kabat-Zinn is founder and director of the stress reduction program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and the "full catastrophe" of which he writes is the spectrum of stress in life. Sometimes I think back...

To the days of my life before I found this book, or as I sometimes like to look at it, before this book found me. I was a high strung mess of anxiety, even afraid to go to work and face the "challenges" of a day of social interaction and internal struggle and emotions. I wasn't completely sure what I was, but I was pretty sure I was suffering from what doctors would call social or maybe generalized anxiety. And with that came depression and sometimes hopelessness of ever changing and moving on. This went on for years--for as far back as I can remember--and it only seemed like it was getting worse, and I was never able to accept myself, I thought myself a failure of some sort. What had I or my parents done wrong in raising me? Why me?
When I found this book, I had been through several programs for anxiety that I had found and downloaded online--none of them helping much--and when I read the introduction, something about it clicked with me. It somehow subconsciously made sense and I knew that I had found something that might actually change the way I WAS, and unknowingly but much more importantly, change the way I viewed myself.
Over the next 8 months, I almost religiously followed the exercises in the book. I learned more about myself and the world around me in those eight months than I have in the past ten years, at least it feels that way.
To cut a long story short, I still have anxiety, but on a scale of 1-10 it is now a 2 where it was an 7 or an 8 before. Simply put, practicing mindfulness pulls the rug from under anything that bothers you in any way. It teaches you that it's ok to feel any emotion and think any thought because that is what is already here. It teaches you to accept those things, and in the process of doing that, those horrible horrible things lose their power over you, and you can begin to heal.
To anyone suffering from emotional pain of any sort, please let me be an example to you that you don't have to be controlled by these terrible feelings. Learn to accept them as they are, and they will go away by themselves.

Great introduction to the practice of mindfulness meditation!

I remember when Bill Moyers first interviewed Jon Kabat-Zinn and I have been interested in mindfulness meditation off and on ever since. Five months ago I lost my husband. I also have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency or "inherited emphysema" and I am on oxygen 24/7. This past summer the stress from both became unbearable. So I bought the book. It is an extremely easy read and the author lulls you into the practice, little by little, from page one. I am now a convert and I plan to take a live course the beginning of next year. I highly recommend this book.

A book that can change one's life if we try

I am taking a course at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter Florida and this is required reading for the course. It goes along with our professor who has been teaching Mindfullness Living for 17 years and though I am 67 years of age this book has taught me a lot about living as we age. As a cancer survivor I really needed this book to help me cope with aging, realizing that I can't do as much as I could when I was younger and how to cope with aging parents and children who are married and in their early 40s and raising their own children. This book has taught me how to relax a little and breath deeply and think before I just jump to a conclusion about stressful matters in my life. One can always learn even when we are a senior and I would advise that any person young or old read this book as it will change their outlook on life. I purchased three extra copies to give to my daughter and two friends who I thought could take away some new life skills from this book.

Invest in your marriage by reading this book!

If more couples were to read this book and apply it's principles the impact on their lives and more importantly their children's lives would be immense. I have read both this book and the previous edition and the Arps have packed this revision with a lot of new material and incredibly practical and helpful tips on how to energize your marriage. So many couples are just surviving when they could be thriving in their marriages. The tips in this new revision will help your marriage thrive.

I also love how the book is broken up into 10 dates with easy to follow instructions on how you can kick your dates up a notch by not only having fun but also learning and applying information that has been proven to help couples energize their marriage.

Now is the time to invest in your marriage so do yourself a favor and get this book because you won't regret getting it, but there may come a day when you regret not getting it.

I know that I am glad that I got the book and read and applied what I learned to my marriage. And there is a good chance that someday my children and grandchildren will thank my wife and I for setting an example for them that a great marriage doesn't just happen on it's own but with the right tools, like this book, and effort, couples can build a happy marriage that will last a lifetime.

A Home Run!

David and Claudia Arp really hit a home run with this updated and expanded edition. We were impressed with the original version years ago, and this is even better. They are very effective in addressing the current context of social media and its affects on relationships. The discussion questions are excellent and conversation-provoking. They offer lots of very practical insights and suggestions combined with a pleasant humor. For example, “Was this your day to be right or mine?” Or again, “Rather than seeing each other as the opposition, position yourselves as a team in opposition to the conflict.” The Arps share stories of their own successes and also their challenges in a very personal style. By the end of this book you will feel like personal friends with them. This book has our highest recommendation. Jim and Faith Battle

Excellent and fun

I was introduced to this book through my internship at BYU-I. I enjoyed reading through the book and the dates that the Arps created. Although I have yet to go through the book with my husband, I have seen changes for the better by applying the advice to my personal life. The Arps are very open in sharing stories from their experiences as a couple and bring humor and personality to the book. I recommend this book to any couple who wants to strengthen their marriage or rekindle the fire.

A true treasure I hope people will find!

Where The Poppies Now Grow is an absolutely beautiful book!
After reading it I felt the deep bravery of the author for facing this topic with such integrity and without judgement. Handled with such a tenderness, it felt like this would've been exactly what these WW1 soldiers would have written. A terribly complex thing so beautifully, deeply and simply put.. evocative in bringing me totally into the story. I smelled, tasted and touched the field, the tree.... each scene...

Hilary Robinson has written a true treasure.. If I was a soldier's mother and read this book, something in my soul would be ever so grateful to her.
